Location: Arenal.

Description: The perfect way to get to know Costa Rican culture and take part in some of our most important activities in Costa Rica: cooking, eating and dancing! People are starting to really take to learning about new cultures and the best way to do that is to learn about what the locals eat. Turns out, Costa Rica has amazing cuisine — it’s healthy, natural and actually very easy to learn how to cook it. That’s why you’ll be wanting to take back local spices and try some of our favourite recipes back home with your friends and families. We’ve planned these cooking classes as a great way to get to know other travelers and hang out with a knowledgable local “chef!” But the night gets even better because as soon as you finish cooking, you’ll be able to sit down to the delicious meal you helped cook up and chat about the “Pura Vida” of Costa Rica.  But wait… there’s more! Hope you brought your dancing shoes to Costa Rica, because we then head to the dance floor to learn how to dance to some of our favorite latin beats — salsa, merengue, cumbia y bachata!

Description: Experience a fun and informative tour of local cuisine: where the organic ingredients come from, how dishes are prepared, and how to recreate recipes at home. First stop at the local farmers’ market in Quepos, where you will have the opportunity to browse the stands and pick out ingredients for your lunch with the guide’s assistance depending on menu designed for you. Once in the small town of Londres, at our private ranch and dining area, you will be greeted by our team. They will proceed to guide you through our organic garden to pick out some finishing flavors, colors and textures for your meal. Now, to the preparation guided by our expert local cooks. Participate in the kitchen and experience the process of making corn tortillas by hand, exotic “ceviches” with plantain or banana, rice cooked the old-fashioned way, chicken in a hearty tomato sauce, “picadillos” (minced meats and veggies and spices combined), and more. Once you sit down for your meal, not only will your appetite be satiated but also your curiosity for Costa Rican local flavours. Let your imagination soar on how to recreate at home with your own seasonal ingredients. There is leisure time available for you to explore the ranch, and walk down to the Naranjo River where, weather permitting, you can have a dip in the refreshing waters.

Afterwards, we will participate in the sugar cane extraction to obtain a delicious juice and then try it alone, with spearmint, liquor, or other of the farm’s organic products. We will visit a small archaeological ranch where we can observe some ancient indigenous pieces and put them to working the artisanal process of making chocolate from the cocoa fruit to the delicious chocolate we love. Finally, you can walk through and admire the orchid and medicinal plant gardens. After the journey, we will share with the other visitors while we enjoy farm-fresh favourites like coffee, cheese, tortillas, hash, and others.
